Current polit situation and my work
.
Hi,
Photo: With friends go
after two weeks I report again today. As promised, I will tell you a little bit about my work at the Hanns-Seidel Foundation, but first I want to briefly discuss the current political situation in Indonesia. As already mentioned
a few weeks ago on my blog, the Indonesian government in the wake of the financial crisis keep a medium-sized bank before Bankrot. In the end, they were pumped by the government 50 times more funding in the bank as originally planned, exactly Rupiah 6.7 trillion, or 710 million U.S. dollars . The funny thing in the matter is that nobody knows where the money is hinverschwunden. Why are the time of the Vice President (then President of the Indonesian Central Bank and for the bailout at all responsible) and the Finance Minister on the hit list . The public is increasingly built on pressure and was now a committee appointed by Parliament. From my office window I see exactly one of the main roads that leads directly to the presidential palace. Every day there are now demonstrations against the government in general and the two main characters in particular. In government circles it is already rumored that the two must resign to save the president. Moreover, it is assumed that the President has financed part of his election campaign this year's budget of black money from the bank bailout. It is more confused, and who knows ....... in the end, maybe even the president take his hat . Civil society (media, non-governmental organizations, the common people) is becoming increasingly restless, as reflected in the numerous demonstrations. are still the protests peaceful , but according to my Indonesian colleagues, the mood can change very quickly. Last week was the global anti-corruption day and tens of thousands of people protested (peacefully, with few exceptions) throughout Indonesia. That would not be the first time that the population crashes a president ...........
But now at last my work at the HSS , which of course indirectly to do with the political events in Indonesia.
- Even I am of this annual report to write, which is divided in: the domestic policy that foreign policy that economic situation and other developments (for example, the devastating earthquake in Sumatra a few months ago) . It is exciting to look at such a young democracy (just 10 years) to get the children and diseases that are still quite large. At the forefront of corruption, ... In general, my job is to observe the general trends in Indonesia (research in newspapers, internet ,...) and write special reports if necessary.
- Furthermore, we have just completed the project planning of the HSS for 2010, ie. the current projects of 2009 to evaluate and develop new ones for 2010. This includes both the substantive and financial planning witha.
- I regularly go with my boss (who is staying at the very moment in Copenhagen at the convention) on outdoor events. So I have already, for example, several ambassadors (German, Sweden, Greece, Denmark, Myanmar ,...) met, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, the Vice-Minister of the Environment, the Director-General of ASEAN (something like the EU in Southeast Asia), Paul Wolfowitz (former World Bank president and U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia ),... You see, we come here a lot of important people and still regard themselves as more important:)
- I also work with the organization and conduct of workshops the HSS. Two weeks ago we had a training course on "Environmental Education for Sustainable Development". Since then I have also held a lecture on renewable energies. A very interesting subject and highly topical one at that. Visited us in early November, the German Constitutional Court Prof. Bross for a lecture series on issues the decision of the Constitutional Court. Actually I have with law not care much about, but it's always interesting outside the box must look to.
- Of course there is one but not the typical office work ersparrt. It also happens that the German report must translate in English or speeches for my boss on certain occasions to write (the last was for the climate conference in Copenhagen)
Finally I would like to congratulate everyone that was still by this (in my eyes very dry) block entry is read. I promise you that there is the next time more pictures and impressions of Indoensien. First moves but for now my whole family over Christmas and New Year and we enjoy a few nice weeks Recovery. I will contact with you again in early January.
I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year and Happy Easter! :)
Starting Over in 2010!

Idul Adha - Halal

GUDN day together!
After a week break again gives news from me.
Last weekend I went with a group of international interns and Indonesians to the beach. Since I could not of course make my debut on the surf board missed. After me, the first estimate of 20 had the same the same time put on the nose, I got the hang of it. Self-praise, But for the first time on the board I made then is not so bad and took a few good waves taken! :)
photo: wedding
This weekend I will once again have long remained in Jakarta. Why? Because I was invited to the wedding of my landlady's daughter. A funny story: the daughter lives in Germany and had a few weeks ago in Germany, married a German. Now they had come to Indonesia but of course, and repeat before the local Christian community, their vows. But as the family of the groom is not join me, my landlord has desperate a German "substitute family" wanted to before the invited guests to preserve the face. It was natural for me a great opportunity to witness a local wedding. I must say, that's different from the Christian wedding ..... not up to the musical. Because Indonesians are fanatical innately Karako they prove their Sangeskraft in the church. This is sung with the utmost emotion and volume and (partly in contrast to Germany:) even correct. Also had 5 different choirs and their performance has been the pastor during his sermon even more the speech style of a dedicated politician. All in all, a great experience and nice food could not be missed.
Now to the headline: Idul Adha or halal slaughter. Last Friday was one of the highest in Indonesia holidays. On that day, Abraham is thought that would have sacrificed his son Isaac for God. In the end, "could" then Abraham to sacrifice a lamb, but instead of his son. So far the story. In Indonesia, the whole thing is like a mass sacrifice. All the people who have some money to buy either a goat, sheep or even a whole cow to sacrifice them. It is (for our Western view) the barbaric animal's throat cut with a simple meter (s.Video) to let it bleed. It was a bit strange to experience such a sacrifice up close. And the muezzin always in the background of his "singing" again .... a strange feeling!
Who does not like to see an animal suffering should watch the following video not before.
Then I had a look at even the largest mosque in Southeast Asia, the fourth largest in the world. If a building already beeindruckndes, but from within less intersting than I imagined. Aufallend the huge prayer hall, the huge digital clock in a central location and various large flat screens. If I had not expected ....
Where from here. Tomorrow I'm on mission and next week I'll tell you even a little bit of my work.
Cheers!

Clipart 50th Anniversary
KPK, German Federal Constitutional Court and Jogja
Photo: The entrance to the palace of Sultan Jogja. Since the current Sultan still lives the way of it yet.
Good day,
this time I sign with a little delay because I over the weekend until Tuesday on a business trip in Yogyakarta (Jogja =) was. And for a change this time there is a report on the current political situations in Indonesia:
The occasion of my business trip was the visit of Prof. Bross, current judge of the Federal Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe. He visits the HSF Jakarta for the second time and tried by the cooperation with the Indonesian counterpart to improve. The Indonesians have actually in their 10 years of democracy a lot from the decisions of the German Constitutional Court. Together with Prof. Bross we visited the Islamic University of Indonesia. On this occasion I also have the President of the Constitutional Court indoensischen, Prof. Mahfud met, and a bit of waffling. And just this Mahfud about 2 weeks ago brought a political ball rolling, which in Indonesia just rolled over the dozen high-ranking government officials.
Mahfud is the second from left, second from right Bross
To the story: The Indonesian government
an SME Bank has slipped in the wake of the financial crisis in more than 700 million dollars, so they do not go bankrupt. The money is then, however, disappeared at once. No one knows where it went. Way is the mouse! : Is suspected) that powerful businessmen, politicians and senior police officers of their wealth (often from corruption transactions) had deposited with the bank and were afraid of losing their coal. The Bank has apparently paid the bank accounts secret. Documents are not yet out publicly for it, but many signs on it.
This is where the handheld computer into the game. This is the anti-Korruptionsbhörde which the population very popular is because it has brought over 100 former parliamentarians, senior civil servants and even the father-son of the president of Indonesia because of corruption behind bars. Since then, the KPK in politics and the President is very unpopular. Therefore they have to hang in person to the police, the Chairman of the KPK a murder attempt. Is then the last 4 months in prison was. But now, Prof Mahfud, President of the Constitutional Court, 2 weeks ago prompted a series of secretly recorded by the KPK Telfonaten Polzeichef by the Indonesian public and the federal prosecutor, during a meeting (with live transmission to the television on) can audition. This then has rendered the stone has been rolled into. The police and the prosecutor are now under suspicion in the event of bank fraud, the KPK Diskretitierung the President ... to be involved. Senior government and police officials had been to resign.
The Indonesian President is silent on the whole thing. It is rumored that he is involved in these incidents. Meanwhile, there are regular demonstrations in Jakarta and on Facebook there is already a group with more than 1 million (!!!!!) members who supported the KPK in its fight against the police and the prosecutor.
I hope that my remarks were not to confusing. Here every day new details to light and the case is always dirty. 'm Curious who here has yet to hold out all his own way. The police in protest against the Constitutional Court the same time withdrawing the protection force for the BVG. This is typical Indonesian .... :)
the way, there was indeed nochwas. I was in Jogja. But honestly have to admit that I have only looked at the temple from the outside and would rather spend a day at the beach. In December I will go there again yes and then shall the whole tourist-Stuff with photos done.
That was the pool from my hotel. Nice refreshing in the morning.

Back to the Stone Age - Baduy
Selamat malam!
This weekend I was again lucky to escape Jakarta. As each week are on Friday evening and Saturday morning, dozens of miles of traffic jams. To me it is sometimes found in such a way that the majority of Indonesians do not like this city and wants to escape it whenever possible.
I was told that on the basis of the Hindu past, Indonesia is a very peaceful people. This is also my impression of the first few weeks. There is here (especially outside Jakarta) a pleasantly quiet and relaxed atmosphere, which I perceive very positive. A special strain that this atmosphere exemplary represents I "visit" the last days must.
Once the main road that leads away from leaving Jakarta, and on the road or branch line is you should have a well-sprung vehicle. Not infrequently, like the ride more like an involuntary Hoppel massage as a flat road. Nevertheless, we arrived Saturday morning in about 5 hours away Baduy. A place where the fox and nowhere. From here it went off with backpacks and plenty of water for the hike. 2 hours we hiked through dense hilly tropical forest. Baduy lives in a tribe that has chosen to live on in his traditional manner as he It has done this for centuries.
There is no electricity, no (Ab) water pipes, no motorbikes or cars, no phones or electrical appliances, no shoes, no mirrors, forced marriage, no schools, reading and writing a foreign word, no clocks, wooden huts and thatched roofs , no toilets, no showers (yes Gibts for the River), bridges made of bamboo and people who take themselves in hand-woven by Sarungs. I must say that I miss that feeling of closeness to nature and freedom in the city. The reflection on the essence of life ...
Here is everything a century turned back. Fascinating .... The Baduys live on what they plant and harvest, nearly self-sufficient. With visitors (like our one) and the sale of handicrafts Sarungs and they deserve the extra, what they do not produce themselves.
I give respect for those people who resist the charms and enticements of civilization, on so-called standard of living (as we call it) and preserve their tradition. I'm curious to see whether or how long they can still protect their culture. The decline and the loss of its value towards materialistic thinking was on the fringes of Baduy already visible. Occasionally you could see cell phones, radios, ... We were also told of more and more young people to leave their family and seek their fortune in the city. It is us, I think all clear that these people are among the first victims of our society ...
I wish you a good start to the week and next week I will tell you about Yogyakarta, the city of temples.

Mount Bromo, or smoking Volcano
Selamt malam! Apa kabar
? (= How are you going?) As promised last week, I leave you will still have some of my trips. This time we went to Mount Bromo, one of the many active volcanoes in Indonesia.
Friday after work we went by plane to Surabaya, in the eastern Indonesian island of Java. After another 3 hours bus ride we finally arrived at night at half past 2 at the hostel. There Were no electricity and so we hid arms for almost 2 hours with candles in our rooms. Promptly at 3:30 we were then thrown again out of bed to be transported by Sheeps on non-saturated paths to 3000m. There waiting for us then by 5 clock morning a phenomenal sunrise. And then as the first rays of the smoke of the smoldering volcano ran shine in a brilliant light, the feeling was postcard perfect.
Then we went to the lookout point Mount Bromo itself impressive when to jump on the Kratergrat, which is only two feet wide, travels to the volcano. Right and left is a steep downhill: enter on one side of the volcano down the outside ......... on the other in the volcano crater! Lava, we have not seen, but the smoke was even more dense, which escaped from the interior. Overall, an impressive natural spectacle that presented itself to us.
The force of nature, we have this weekend but not only seen in all its glory, but also cruel on his part. Before about 3.5 years, an oil company (owner is a current Minister of the Indonesian government), a 2000m deep test hole drilled to develop a new oil / gas field in the immediate vicinity of several villages. Security and safety measures were ignored completely and flow every day since then (!) 100,000 m3 of toxic sludge from the Earth's interior to the surface and buried everything among themselves. By the uncontrolled drilling a natural balance has been disturbed. The result: now, 16 villages of the mudslide at a 2m thick layer swallowed. Thousands of people had to be relocated and some were even killed in this man-made natural disaster. Additionally formed next to the big holes in some places near cracks in the earth, from which methane gas and toxic sludge shoots. We have seen a private property (see picture), whose house is completely eaten up by the fissure and the corrosive gas. In the middle of a village. If I had not myself seen, I would believe that it is a bad joke. Is it any of you interested in more detail: the incident even hats made up in Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidoarjo_mud_flow).
2: this is the tip that is still on 2-story town house remaining. The rest is all buried in hardened mud ...
So far so bad. What you next week for reading gets even know myself not as accurate. The plans are still in .....:)

Thousand Islands, or a few of the 18,000
Selamat malam!
Today I take you as promised, on a trip to the " Ribu Pulau " or "Thousand Islands referred. On Saturday morning at 5 clock went off: two German and 18 Indonesians. We have been prudent warned before, it would be a backpacker trip ...
with a cutter, which we had rented for 2 days, was the going adventure. Three hours by boat from Jakarta drive away, right in the Java sea, we landed on an island, an estimated 100 meters wide and 2 km in length. Of tourism does not track. First we went on foot through jungle thickets and palm collections. In between walnut gabs a fresh coconut from the palm open in style and with a machete:) That was the oppressive heat also urgently needed. The strenuous march but was compensated by a magnificent beach . All together we fell into the water armed with a snorkel, mask and fins. The next 2 hours I then met for the first time the underwater world of Indonesia: loads of fish, rays, starfish, corals of all shapes and colors ... Now you can all together once a round to be jealous of me! :) On Sunday we will have
moved from island to island and snorkeling spot to snorkel spot. In this small island schnuggeligen dream you just go sometimes even the T clear .... how stupid that we had to leave again to Jakarta. Here I would have liked a few more days left.
Finally, I told you yet attached a small video and some photos from my home in Jakarta.
it well and are looking forward to next week. At the weekend, fly to Mount Bromo . There should be able to experience one of the most amazing sunrises, this planet has to offer .....

The quake and the jungle
I'm back!
I hope that I write the following sentence must be the last time:
But now to the finer things in life. After 3 weeks I've finally done it this stinking mega-city to turn its back and ride in the countryside. The driver of the Danish Embassy has given us (2 Danes, 1 Swede, 4 German) to drove 3 hours from Puncak. As we went through the day running around in the jungle of the nation's parks and bathed in the waterfall. On Sunday we will have strolled through the endless tea plantations of the region and enjoyed the sun (in Jakarta, it is hot, but through the smog you get from the sun very much to).
Next weekend, we go to Thousand Islands. Interesting name? Let's surprise ...

I'm back!
I hope that I write the following sentence must be the last time:
I have the latest earthquake safe and well survived. Last Friday, 16 clock time, I was standing in the office of my boss. Suddenly I become bissal is a dizzy. Since my boss had smoked in his room and I have not eaten much for lunch, I thought that it is my cycle and got me on a chair until my head ...... Having bitten by a tarantula jumped up and has caused earthquakes . I have to say it feels right funny if you at the 9th Floor of a building sits and the thing starts to wobble ..... The Indonesians have the building evacuated without panic, but it has met at the collection point on the road. A ll information on official the quake reached 3.3 on the Richter scale, and no one was injured. Ensure that the epicenter was entfert but only 200 km from Jakarta, we had a great guardian angel ....

Show On Line Floor Plans For Granny Flats
HSS Jakarta and what I work so
Selamat Malam!
You see, my knowledge of Indonesian rapidly becoming more acute! :) Today I had my first official lesson. So do focus on what, if I'm back ....;)
As I have also promised last week, I talk this time about my work and I love the whole day so exaggerating:
I am completing my internship in the outer office of the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS) in Jakarta. The team consists of a German director and louder Indonesian employees (1 program coordinators, a financial Erin, 2 secretaries, 1 Office Boy and 2 drivers).
focus of HSS are "Environmental Education for Sustainable Development", "Democratization" and "Rule of Law" (= certainty). plan and coordinate within these topics, and we carry a variety of workshops, participate in conferences and Represent the course may be forgotten in a foundation before. Tomorrow I take, for example, in a seminar of the German-Indonesian Handeskammmer on "Renewable Energy Biogas" part. Determined really exciting and the drivers is of course also been ordered so that he can I pull up properly! :)
Perhaps you may have noticed even the elections in July 2009 in Indonesia. For the new Members of Parliament we hold crash courses on various topics (eg "What is a Democrat?" NO JOKE!)
Since democracy in Indonesia has only been about 10 Years is they are very Fragile and lately also urge strengthened Islamist parties in the foreground. In a province recently even reintroduced Sharia and thus the stoning for adultery and flogging for adultery. But so far I have yet to meet the Indonesians that is good. Generally, we will be here a very tolerant dealing with religion. Religion is interpreted mainly as a private matter. Since then there should not be surprising if a woman in a miniskirt and a woman with a headscarf in a bar drinking beer encounters! :)
If you want to read more about our work you find in the HSS Indonesia www.hsfindo.org
Otherwise I live here, more and more. At the weekend I had beeen at indie festival in which various local bands have gebattelt. Times quite funny to see how young Indonesian abgehn to Indie! :) Another favorite sport is the Indonesian food. I must confess that I have in this good 2 weeks here have never once cooked and increased at least 3 pounds. One serving of Nasi (= rice) and mie goreng (= noodle) goreng can be found here for the equivalent of 80 euro cents. Cook would be at least as expensive. And once popular in the week, heading into Swiss restaurant in which one of bratwurst on Kassler, Cordon Bleu and potato salad all get what your heart! :)
In this sense: Selemat Macan! (= Good Appetite) and by next week
Selamat Malam!
You see, my knowledge of Indonesian rapidly becoming more acute! :) Today I had my first official lesson. So do focus on what, if I'm back ....;)

earthquake in Sumatra and the first week
way you love, I'm back! The first week in Jakarta is over and there is a lot to tell.
Perhaps the most important times to the beginning: Jakarta is left by the earthquake in Sumatra largely spared ...... to happiness. We have in our office in the high-rise just a little wobble not notice!
A few facts about Indonesia Entry:
- Indonesia is the country's fourth largest population in the world, 232 million people.
- Indonesia consists of 18,000 islands (Jakarta on the island of Java with 130 million Meschlein) and extends over a length of over 5000 km.
- 88% of Indonesian Muslims
- Jakarta has 20 million inhabitants and is characterized mainly by a consistently high level of smog pollution, miles of continuous traffic jams and lack of green out;)
should the you you a little idea of the dimensions here . give Everything a couple of sizes bigger ..... up to the size of the Indonesians. The fact I go max. up to chest height! :)
now I am also drawn from the hotel in my own little room (see picture). The first step me settle here. With the Indonesian language, I do myself but still very heavy. Understand only train station here all day. Therefore I must first gaze where I can as quickly as possible NEN crash course. The people may in fact English, but rather less than good.
What else do so everything's going and how's the internship at the Hanns-Seidel Foundation, I tell you next week.
Until then
Peter
